Product Care
ORVANE pieces are made to last. With appropriate care, your leather will improve with age, developing a patina that is entirely your own.
Smooth Leather
Full-Grain & Smooth Leather
Full-grain and smooth leathers are the most durable and develop a rich patina with wear. They require regular conditioning to maintain suppleness.
Cleaning
Wipe with a clean, slightly damp cloth to remove surface dust and light marks. Do not use household cleaners, alcohol-based products or abrasive materials. For deeper cleaning, use a specialist leather cleaner applied sparingly with a soft cloth.
Conditioning
Apply a specialist leather conditioner or cream every three to six months using a soft cloth, working in small circular motions. Allow to absorb fully before buffing to a gentle sheen. Conditioning prevents the leather from drying and cracking over time.
Water Exposure
Avoid prolonged exposure to rain or moisture. If your piece becomes wet, blot excess water gently with a clean cloth and allow to dry naturally at room temperature, away from direct heat sources. Do not use a hairdryer or place near a radiator.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. Use a dust bag or breathable cloth cover. Avoid plastic bags, which can trap moisture and cause mildew.
Suede & Nubuck
Suede & Nubuck
Suede and nubuck have a soft, brushed surface that requires different care from smooth leather. They are more susceptible to water and staining.
Cleaning
Use a specialist suede brush to remove dry surface dirt, brushing gently in one direction. For marks, use a suede eraser or specialist suede cleaner. Do not use water or standard leather cleaners on suede or nubuck.
Protection
Apply a suede and nubuck protector spray before first wear and periodically thereafter. This creates a barrier against water and light staining. Allow to dry fully before wearing.
Water Exposure
If suede or nubuck becomes wet, allow to dry naturally away from heat. Once dry, brush gently with a suede brush to restore the nap.
Storage
Store in a dust bag away from direct sunlight. Avoid contact with other leather pieces, which may transfer colour.
Outerwear
Leather Jackets
ORVANE leather jackets are built for long-term wear. With appropriate care, the leather will develop a distinctive patina unique to the wearer.
Cleaning
Wipe with a clean, slightly damp cloth after wear to remove surface dust. For the lining, follow the care label. Do not machine wash or dry clean unless the care label specifically permits it.
Conditioning
Condition the leather every three to six months with a specialist leather cream. Pay particular attention to areas of flex — elbows, collar and cuffs — which are subject to greater wear.
Hardware
Wipe hardware with a dry cloth to remove fingerprints and moisture. Antique brass and gunmetal hardware will develop a natural patina; this is a characteristic of the material. Do not use metal polish on hardware.
Storage
Hang on a padded hanger to maintain the shoulder shape. Store in a cool, dry place in a breathable garment bag. Do not fold or compress for extended periods.
Footwear
Leather Footwear
Leather footwear benefits from regular care to maintain its appearance and extend its life. Goodyear welted construction allows for resoling, making ORVANE footwear a long-term investment.
Cleaning
Remove surface dirt with a soft brush or damp cloth before applying any product. Allow to dry fully before conditioning.
Conditioning & Polishing
Apply a leather cream or polish in a matching or neutral shade using a soft cloth or brush. Work into the leather and allow to absorb before buffing to a shine. Regular polishing nourishes the leather and maintains water resistance.
Maintaining Shape
Use cedar shoe trees after each wear to absorb moisture and maintain the shape of the last. This significantly extends the life of the shoe.
Sole Care
Leather soles benefit from a thin application of sole conditioner to prevent drying and cracking. Rubber heel tips can be replaced by a cobbler when worn.
Storage
Store with shoe trees in a cool, dry place. Use a dust bag or box to protect from dust and light.
Bags
Leather Bags
Leather bags require care to maintain their structure and surface. Regular conditioning keeps the leather supple and prevents cracking.
Cleaning
Wipe the exterior with a clean, slightly damp cloth. For the interior lining, empty completely and wipe with a dry cloth. Do not saturate the leather with water.
Conditioning
Condition the exterior leather every three to six months. Pay attention to handles and straps, which receive the most wear.
Maintaining Shape
When not in use, stuff the bag lightly with tissue paper or a soft cloth to maintain its shape. Do not overfill, which can distort the structure.
Hardware
Wipe hardware with a dry cloth. Avoid contact with perfume, hand cream and other chemicals, which can tarnish metal fittings.
Storage
Store in the dust bag provided, upright or on its base. Keep away from direct sunlight, which can fade the leather.
Small Leather Goods
Wallets, Cardholders & Small Leather Goods
Small leather goods are subject to daily handling and benefit from regular light care.
Cleaning
Wipe with a clean, dry or very slightly damp cloth. Avoid excessive moisture near card slots and stitching.
Conditioning
Apply a small amount of leather conditioner sparingly every few months. A little goes a long way on small pieces.
Patina
Full-grain leather small leather goods will develop a natural patina with daily use. This is a desirable characteristic of the material.
Storage
Store flat in a dust bag when not in use. Avoid overfilling wallets and cardholders, which can distort the leather over time.
